It was sometime in mid  1998 that the idea of celebrating the Durga Puja in North Western Sydney took birth in the minds of a few enterprising young men. They proved to be people who were willing to get down and give practical shape to to the idea. In 1998 the first Durga Puja at Plumpton was celebrated in a small scale.

The organisers had hoped for a small crowd but the actual attendance far exceeded  their expectations, with people visiting from far and distant suburbs. All who came were unanimous in their appreciation of the organisation and the conduct of the function.  The organisers felt very encouraged by this positive feedback  and  decided to make this an annual event. This year, the Durga Puja continues, without any break, as part of an unbroken chain.

In 2004 it has moved to a bigger and more centralised venue to accommodate the ever growing crowds. With the Goddess's blessings we hope to continue indefinitely in the future.

This year Uttaran's Durga Puja was held on 19th September 2009
